Meet Pastor Scott Howard

Pastor Scott Howard and his wife Gena

Pastor Scott Howard has been serving the Lord and loving people for many years, and his heart for ministry is evident the moment you meet him. Scott grew up in North Carolina, and Gena—his wife and lifelong partner in ministry—grew up in Georgia. God brought their paths together when Scott was stationed at Fort Stewart during his service in the United States Army. They married in April of 1986, beginning a journey of faith, family, and service that continues to this day.

Scott and Gena have two children, Amanda Soto and Jeffrey Howard, and they are blessed with six wonderful grandchildren they love dearly.

Scott was licensed to the ministry in 2007 and ordained in 2009 as a Southern Baptist pastor. Over the years, he has become well known throughout Effingham County and the surrounding communities as a steady, compassionate, and Bible-centered shepherd. His ministry has taken many forms—interim pastorates, prison ministry, chaplaincy, mission work, and long-term pastoral leadership.

For fourteen years, Scott served as Senior Pastor of Eldora Baptist Church in Ellabell, Georgia, faithfully preaching the Word, leading mission trips, ministering to families, and walking with people through life’s joys and sorrows. In November 2025, he began serving as Pastor at North Newington Baptist Church.

Scott’s ministry roots begin when he answered the call to preach. From 1997 to 2006, he served in personal prison ministry at the Effingham County Prison, teaching and encouraging inmates with the hope of the Gospel. He has also served as a Truck Stop Chaplain, a deacon at Rincon First Baptist Church, and an interim pastor at several local congregations, wherever God would choose to use him.

He is committed to lifelong learning and is currently pursuing his Master of Biblical Exposition at Andersonville Theological Seminary. His desire is to handle God’s Word faithfully and help others grow in their walk with Christ.

Outside of ministry, Scott has built a long career with Colonial Oil Industries in Savannah, serving in a variety of leadership roles since 1997. Whether at work, at church, or in the community, he strives to live out his faith with integrity.

Above all, Scott is a man who loves Jesus, loves his family, and loves the people God places in his path. He considers it one of his greatest blessings to serve the local church and to walk alongside others as they grow in their relationship with Christ.
